Hi, I’m Sarah!

I love food, travel, creating, and I’m a bit of an introvert.  This means two things: if it weren’t for my love of travel, I could have (and sometimes wish I had) been a pioneer woman. And also, on any given day, I’d rather be in my kitchen than anywhere else, except for maybe a plane, train, craft store, or ethnic grocery.

I’ve traveled a bit, and came home from a semester in Europe with a notebook of recipes and half a suitcase of food (and yes, I did leave my clothes behind to bring home Italian hot chocolate, espresso, black spaghetti, and a bag of the best dried peperoncini which I just can’t manage to find back in the U.S.).  Since returning home, I’ve built friendships (mostly over the dining table) with some of the most interesting people from all over the world, and my cooking repertoire, as well as my spice and seasoning cabinet, has expanded.

My husband and I dream of one day living on a small farm, growing and making almost everything we need (well, I dream of that, plus still having craft stores at my disposal).  Until then, instead of our Little House on the Prairie, we have our Little Apartment in a College Town, but we’re practicing for that life now – saving money, making things ourselves, and finding joy in living on less.  We may live in a tiny house and on a student budget, but our lives are full.

Most of what you’ll find here are recipes of all sorts – ethnic, sweets, bread, and a generous amount of health-nut posts (vegan/vegetarian/gluten free/fermentation) as well. Every once in a while I’ll shake things up a little and post on current projects, DIYs, menu planning, and normal life in the Little House.

  1. We sound a lot alike, except I’m doing those things with a house full of kids on a little farm in rural Michigan. Looking forward to following along.
